Gillece - scamming the elderly

My elderly grandmother (who is widowed) called Gillece after seeing their special deal for 10 new outlets for $99. She had been worried they were getting old and dirty and thought it was a good deal.

While there, they convinced her that her wiring was bad and was a hazard that needed to be dealt with immediately. Keep in mind, this is the house my great-grandfather built 60 some years ago, and he was a master electrician and master plumber, who worked as a contractor building houses his entire life. They gave her the shakedown and she wound up signing a $7,000 contract because she was so concerned her house was going to burn down. Her wiring is NOT aluminum and I'm quite certain that the electrician who upgraded her electrical box 2 years ago would've noted this if it was truly a hazard.

Now I can see that Gillece preys on the elderly and young folks... the most trusting, and the most naive.

AVOID THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY! Scam artists is all they are!

Why is it that only now Gillece Customer Care wants to talk to RayBay's grandmother's situation only after it was posted on the complaint board for all to see. Didn't Gillece Plumbing/Electrical already set the charges was when they got the contract signed?...They had no idea that it came to $7000 and that nobody would complain??

She probably did call at one point and Gillece didn't do anything about it because they never do. There's more than one complaint on this site saying how they called Gillece about a complaint and nothing was done.

Calling Gillece regarding a complaint is about as effective as complaining to a brick wall. At least here they have people to talk to who have unfortunately been in the same situation thanks to this terrible company.

I know this too well because I called to complain after I was taken for more than 10 grand for a "line replacement" that failed less than a month later and I was told it wasn't under warranty and I wouldn't have any money refunded. A lot of good that did, nothing but a waste of breath calling.

In a nutshell, this is their company motto. Please please don't fall for their advertising that is ALL OVER the airwaves, and television.

They scam people out of thousands of dollars to pay for this advertising... do you ever see a good, local, trusted plumber/electrician that needs to advertise 37 times during the local evening news? NO. Because their work speaks for them.

Gillece's work speaks against them, so they keep pounding you with ads so when something goes wrong you think "call Gillece" - if you do, you will sorely regret it. I guarantee it! You will either pay about 200x more than you should have (a new tub spigot costs a couple hundred... not a couple thousand; a new sewer drain costs a couple thousand...

not ten thousand; new outlets cost a hundred bucks...

not several thousand).

AVOID AVOID GILLECE AT ALL COSTS.

yep, Tom Gillece the very owner of the company never takes phone calls from customers. Good luck getting your money back you'll probably have to take them to court for that one and even then they'll fight it saying "you signed a contract agreeing to the work, you should have obtained a second opinion prior to agreeing if you were unsure, etc etc" trust me. You won't see a dime.

When I had my plumbing problem last month and had a reoccuring leak, I called to ask for Tom Gillece and was told that he doesn't take phone calls. WTF!

Ok then I want them to arress my problem here. I want my money back because you guys didn't fix my toilet ring right. I paid $659 for it too.

Gillece, still the biggest rip off!!!!!

Hello, my name is Robert Lee and although my particular case is over, it still *** me off when I think about how Adam Carson threatened me that he was going to ' DIG MY SEWER BACK UP ' I posted the now famous complaint "Gillece and it's terrorist threats agains me and my property" I have had over 2,600 hits and many comments including those from the "TROLLS" like Adam Carson himself, but not revealing his idenity!!!! I drove around for weeks with a sign on the back window of my mini van, "HONK IF YOU KNOW THAT GILLECE IS A RIP OFF" I got quite a few 'honks' for all of us who has been ripped off by this notorious company this is a good way to express our anger, I think I'll put the sign back on my window, BUT MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE!, put a sign on your rear window, type up or just print some business card sized pieces of paper and pass them out while you're in line at a grocery store, anything small or large to more expose them, they are ripping people off every day!!!!!!!!!!

A class action lawsuit needs to happen against these *** bags. They ripped off my now deceased mother in law for over 15 thousand dollars to dig up her sewer only to find out it was never even necessary in the first place.

They cleaned out nearly all of her savings and scared her half to death and wouldn't allow her to call another company which is why she signed the papers with them. She was 92 years old when this happened and not once did they do the right thing by consulting family due to her age and vulnerability. Then again I guess that's why they never did that, they saw her as an easy target. This company is horrible and anybody who works for them should be ashamed of themselves.

Tom Gillece should be very ashamed of himself for creating this mess and creating a business out of taking advantage of people. I hope karma is real because if it is, he's screwed!

Price Gouging - Water Heater & Scam

Our hot water heater was leaking and we called Gillece due to their prolific ads. Big mistake.

The cost to replace a hot water heater should be less than $1000 (reference: http://www.homewyse.com/services/cost_to_replace_hot_water_heater.html). Gillece charged $3300. Keep in mind that our basement is flooded so we were under lots of pressure. Then they claimed a pipe was cracked and we'd be bathing in our own sewage if they didn't replace another pipe for $4700.

A week later, there was water all over our basement floor and Gillece didn't bother to return our phone calls for help. Looking at the other complaints here, perhaps we should engage in a class action lawsuit?

I was interviewd by the AG Office 2 years ago. Gillece has been caught in an undercover sting too.

Yet there they are still running cmmercials and playing the Bait N Switch Game. All the TV stations in Pittsburgh are happy to take Tom's money. And the all know that the second one of their service techs / salesmen walk through their victims door the practiced and rehearsed hard sell begins. I agree with LoudMouth, the fix is in.

The real victims here are the elderly and those folks who have fallen victim to a well rehearsed sales pitch. SHAME ON TH AG'S OFFICE AND OUR LOCAL MEDIA!!!!

This measns Gillece complaints are starting to pile up at the Attorney Generals office and they are starting to pay out. Don't discret the AGs office yet, it might go civil.

Repeated No Shows By Gillece

They have now blown off appointments I have set twice...give 4 hour windows and don't show up. I have now wasted 8 hours waiting for them to never arrive.

The second time I got stood up I called to ask what was going on and was told I was a "priority"...and then nobody showed up. I know have a third 4 hour window appointment sent but I am disappointed with Gillece even before they have stepped into my home.

I wouldn't use Gillece again after this incident. Should have read all the poor reviews on the net and known better.

Consider yourself lucky for them not showing up. Basically, this is what would happen: "You need a new fill in the blank for $10,000".

I heard they ask the age of your home furnace, AC, or water heater to gauge how important you are in terms of how much potential scam money they can get from you. If you say I have a 20 year old furnace that needs looked at, you will have 6 Gillece trucks in your driveway before you can say "scam".

Western PA's largest SCAM company!

Called Gillece on 8/22/12 for a leaking kitchen faucet due to a bad washer and my upstairs toilet kept running, a minor issue because we just needed a new flapper as the old one had started to fall apart. I was scheduled between 12-4 for the same day but the plumber never arrived during that time.

I called around 3pm to see what was going on when I was told by a gentleman that the plumber was running behind and would be there this evening after 4pm. Around 7pm I got a call saying the plumber was on his way and he did arrive around 7:40 or so that evening. The plumber barely spent fifteen minutes looking at my faucet and toilet before he said that I needed to replace the entire faucet and the whole toilet! Where he got that assumption from I'll never know for sure.

His estimate? $5200! That is not a typo...five THOUSAND two hundred dollars and I am rounding down because it was even a little more than that. I literally laughed in his face and told him to get the *** out of my house!

I had to pay $65 just to learn of their scam but it doesn't end there. A few days later I saw a commercial advertising $39 to come to your house to check a plumbing problem. I called and asked why I was charged $65 instead of $39 and where in the world they get their repair prices from and how in the heck the plumber thought I needed a whole new toilet and faucet? The lady on the phone said the $39 is only if you ASK for it on the phone when making your appointment which just seems like a scam in itself right there.

The rest she didn't have an answer for but said she'd take my information and forward it along to someone and I'd get a return call. I never got a return call and I called twice after that and I got the same story. Lesson learned, Gillece Services in Bridgeville is a scam company who doesn't care about their customers. Their customer service is absolutely terrible, the girls on the phone are unhelpful and rude and the company is just all around BAD.

After my experience I found numerous complaints about this company, too bad I found them just a little too late or else I would have never called them. I hope my story can help someone out there because if you are thinking about or already called Gillece, think twice! I have told many people about what I went through and some even had their own horror stories to share or knew someone who had a bad experience, I haven't heard not one good thing about Gillece.

Oh and I called another plumber who came out and fixed the washer and the flapper and the total bill was just over $150 including his trip fee which was no where close to $65. Take my advise and DON'T call Gillece!

Why would you only includ a sentence or two of the entire complaint, gillece? Because the whole complaint tells the whole story and the whole story sure paints you in a negative light!

Isn't it illegal to submit fake information on a court document? Because I think the "information " you submitted was false because it doesn't include the complaint in its entirety! I'm sure once the judge reads every complaint, the WHOLE complaints and not just snippets, sees the news stories, AG complaints and more...you're done for.

Gillece is nothing but liars and crooks!

I called Gillece on July 18th because my air conditioner was blowing warm air and I figured it just needed a charge. The girl on the phone couldn't tell me how much it would be and it was $95 just for him to come to my house which right there is just ridiculous.

I was miserable and hot and wanted it fixed so I agreed and she said someone would come between 10 am and 2 pm. Well around 1pm after waiting for hours I get a phone call saying the serviceman was stuck at another job and they wanted to make sure I was available after 2 which I said I was although I was not happy about it. 7pm rolls around and I get another call saying they have to reschedule me for the following day. Gillece advertises they will be there the same day or you don't pay but that's a lie and a scam because when I mentioned that they said I didn't qualify because I was put down for 10am until 2.

What a load of ***! They promised I would be made a top priority the next morning. Well the serviceman did come out the following morning around 10am and he barely even looked at my air conditioner before he told me the entire thing was shot and I would need to replace it and a repair wasn't even an option at this point. I couldn't believe it because the air conditioner was only about 6 years old.

He wrote down a price and I nearly fell over when I saw $5,600! I asked him how he could possibly justify a price like that and spat some sales pitch at me and said it would come with a great warranty so on. I told him I didn't give a darn about the warranty, I could buy at least four new ACs for that price! I kicked him out and had Climatech come by later that day and they said my air conditioner was just fine and the only thing it needed was a charge it didn't need replaced at all.

They also said the price Gillece had given me for a new system was completely ridiculous and thousands more than it should normally cost. My air conditioner is working fine now by the way.

So much for a repair not being an option! Gillece Services is full of liars and *** artists who overcharge, stay far away!

I've heard that Gillece is doing really bad lately, making staff cuts to important key people and positions in the office and trying to hire more technicians when there aren't any calls for them to go to. When companies start making *** in-explainable decisions like that they're usually about to go belly up.

Does anyone know anything about this or can anyone confirm? I know we'd all love to see them go down hard!

Gillece and it's terrorist threats against me and my property

my sewer backed up over the Easter weekend 2012, i was disabled after actually dieing, was revived but went into a coma for 21 days, i have written a book "i escaped the grip of the grim reaper into a new and beautiful life" being published through Dorrance publishing,,,, i could write a book about this Gillece matter but i'll try to be brief,,,after being told that the whole system inside and outside needed replaced for $12,000 i opted to do just the more serious issue of the outside for $8,000 plus tax, i paid $3,300 down, and promised to make payment arrangements after the job was done, after being constanty told "YOU have to do this today" and "the crew is on their way" the conversation went on for 3 hours, in this time i nade 3 cups of coffee for Adam Carson and his trainee, I was told by Adam Carson that they needed to dig under the foundation to make the connection in the basement, and the dig could be up to 30 feet, the actual work of digging out the sewer began at 5pm, and this one man (no crew,) Adam and his trainee left! with his back *** finished for the day at 7 pm, i went outside as he was putting plywood over the 13 feet hole, and he never dug under the foundation to make the connection in the basement, he just slid a 4 inch pipe into the existing 5 in pipe, the next day this one man Tony arrived at 9 in the morning, filled the hole and was raking the final dirt into place at 11 am.

i already knew there would be an altercation, i was supposed to meet Adam Carson at my home but went to another house i own to cut grass because i was so upset and preferred talking on the phone with this man, he called me at noon, asked him if the job was done, he said in a couple of hours, i told him he was lieing saying that your boy was done when i left, he utter "he's still here" i asked if he was going to reduce the balance he replied "why would i do that?" i argued that his boy worked for a total of 4 hours and he never dug under the foundation etc,etc, he kept calling all day maybe 10 times (i am awaititing phone records from at&t)saying Mr. Lee you signed a contract and demanding i come to the home and talk about it, i told him to have their legal dept. contact me, i took the battery out of my phone, the next morning Easter Sunday i put the battery back in and saw that i had 3 voice messages all from Adam Carson saying"Mr. lee if you don't come down here to talk about this i will have this sewer dug back up"if i would have known that he left these messages that Saturday i would have had the police down there this is a terrorist threat against me and my property, i worried about leaving my property all that week!

I e-mailed a letter to Gillece some-what like this and I talked to their public relations office that week, the man was nice about the whole mess and offered that i pay only $700 more, making the job a total of $4,000 it would be settled, that alone tells you that they did me wrong, i scoffed at that and told him i wasn't paying another nickle and if they bothered me i would sue them, i thought we had an under-standing but Friday June 22, i got a registered letter to show up at a magistrates hearing for i was being sued for $5,000 plus court, i have counter sued for coersion, harrasment and terroristic threats, July 19 is the court date, wish me luck!!!! in ending i e-mailed this story to the federal trade commission to file a complaint i understand they are already being investigated, they are a cut throat company, don't be conned by their $99.00 sewer cleaning offer,, they just want in your door,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Robert Alan Lee

I MEANT TO SAY ....THEY* gave my mother an estimate for 5,400.00 to just replace a gas line in the basement. a REAL plumber came out and charged 800.00 plus he is fixing other things like the water tank valve and water regulator.

Gillece lives up to their terrible reputation

Two weeks ago my mom noticed an odor in my grandmothers house. She figured it might have been a plumbing problem, so she called Gillece.

Appt. was scheduled, but they never arrived after mom and grandma waited for 7 hours. Gillece promised to come back and do a free camera inspection of the drains. We rescheduled an appointment with a seemingly nice girl named Katie and waited patiently on the scheduled day.

Again, Gillece never showed, citing and "emergency" that took precedence. I knew, but they did not, that Gillece had recently been exposed as a predatory company, proven to scam and fleece the elderly. Many advertisers will not vouch for them anymore. However, I figured we should give them the benefit of the doubt.

They proved their mettle once again. Why won't they just go away?

Gillece Price Gouges

Had a separated pipe in the basement. The drywall had been removed and we attempted but were unsuccessful in getting it to glue back together.

Our water was off, and we called Gillece at 10:30 at night. They returned the call at 6:30 the next morning and said the technician would be out between 8 and 12. He doesn't arrive until 3, and then quotes me a price of $600!! and won't guarantee the work until he is able to check the water pressure, which couldn't be done until the repair was made.

An additional cost would have been charged if the pressure needed to be fixed so the guarantee would be granted. I also asked him to quote me a price on a leaking garbage disposal. Price for both the downstairs repair and garbage disposal -- $2600!!! I refused the repairs and had to pay a $65 fee for him to make the visit.

We were able to get another plumber that evening who made the repair with Pex and couplers (Gillece repair would have been PVC and glue) for $200. Plus, he noticed that both shut off valves on the water heater were left off by the Gillece tech which could have caused the heater to blow from the built-up pressure.

RUDE OPERATORS, TERRIBLE SERVICE

Called Gillece Friday May 25th around 9AM because my AC was blowing warm air. A very rude woman by the name of Diane answered and a I was peppered with millions of questions.

She asked how old my home was? I was curious and asked her what that had to do with my AC? She because extremely rude and and said MAM I NEED TO KNOW THIS INFORMATION all she had to do was say she needed it nicely. She was rude the entire time I was on the phone with her from start to finish that should have been my warning to call someone else.

Then she tied to sell me something for $400! Like I'd buy anything from a rude *** like you! The service man came out and barely even looked at my AC before he announced it had to be replaced to the tune of $6300! I of course said no and conveniently a man from Gillece called me to lower the price a whole $500 if I went with the service today.

I told he guy to leave and was happy to pay $95 to get him out of my house. I told him and his buddy on the phone to forget I ever called them and throw away my info.

Read reviews online before you call a contractor! I sure wish I did.

The woman I spoke to when I placed my call was rude as well it's too bad I don't remember her name, prob. the same lady.

They so "kindly" offered to fix my sewer line for 10 thousand dollars. Cancelled the contract the following day after I got a second opinion from A1 and my lines were just fine, they unclogged the pipe and it took 15 minutes. Said Gillece tried pulling one over on me and they hear stories like mine all the time. Glad I got a second opinion.

Gillece tried giving me some runaround as to why I shouldn't cancel. I'm not forking that kind of money over for nothing is what I told him. Filed a complaint with the BBB and the AG is next.

They should be shut down, they're nothing but poison to a hardworking city like Pittsburgh and they're not doing anybody any good. It's a shame so many people have fallen for their scams and have been ripped off for hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Gillece Used scare tactics on my pregnant wife

I was away on business when my 6 months pregnant wife called Gillece because our basement drain was backing up. They claim to run a special for $99 to unclog any drain but we quickly found out that's a part of the scam to get them in the door.

The plumber who I think was more of a salesman came in and stuck a snake down the drain and wiggled it around for about three minutes before he told my wife that our lines were busted. My wife asked him how he could possibly know that and he told her he's been doing this for years and he "just knows" when lines are busted and need replaced. He went on some sales pitch and told my wife that our situation was extremely dangerous and need replaced ASAP. My wife told him we had never had a problem before and our house is only 14 years old and there's no way they would need to be replaced, she was positive the problem was our 3 year old flushing too much paper down the toilet.

He told her no, this was a serious issue that would need to be resolved right now and he scared her half to death and even went so far saying that this could somehow cause birth defects to our unborn daughter. He wrote her up an estimate of nearly $27, 000. My wife became extremely distraught and emotional because she was not expecting a price even close to that and began crying. When she said she wanted to seek a second opinion from another company and she would like him to leave he refused to leave our house saying he was not going to let us live in this situation and he wanted her to sign an emergency work authorization form so they could get started today and there was no need for a second opinion from anybody else.

She explained to him we do not have that kind of money just lying around, and he said she could finance it and when she told him that's not an option he suggested we use the money from our son's college savings account and finance the rest! My wife was floored. She kept asking him to leave and he kept refusing and pushing her to sign the paperwork and she became more and more upset. Eventually he left and my wife called me and explained what had just happened and I was fuming.

About 15 minutes later I received a call on my cell phone from a guy named Harry from Gillece and I told him I did not want to talk to him, his plumber had upset my pregnant wife to the point of tears and scared her. He said well it's a very scary situation and a very real problem and the plumber was only doing the right thing by trying to help us out! Wow, what help let me tell you. He said he could knock 3k off the price if we went with it today because there was a cancellation in our area so he has guys with the equipment sitting around and they could be there to get started today.

I told him to kick rocks and he can call his crew and tell them to head back to where ever they came from because they weren't going near my house. He kept pushing and I hung up on him. My wife called another company who came out and unclogged our sewer in 20 minutes. Turns out she was right and it was just toilet paper and our lines are just fine and not broken at all!

In fact the second plumber said our kids will likely be out of college before we have a real problem like a broken line! He also said their estimate of $27, 000 was completely out of line. Gillece uses hard scare tactics and their prices are ridiculous and we will never call them ever again and I will tell everyone I know not to use them and I will post my story on every complaint website I find so as as many people as possible can see how horrible they are.

They have tons of negative reviews online, a poor rating with the BBB and Channel 4 even did stories about them and apparently the Attorney General is conducting an investigation. Don't call Gillece!

That is very low of them, although I will admit I am not surprised because these are the usual actions of the scam artists known as Gillece Services. Tom has the whole place wired with hundreds of cameras and microphones monitoring every bodys every move. They tap into your calls and watch you like a hawk and every action is questioned and your job is constantly threatened. Gillece doesn't just screw their customers they screw their employees as well. Unfairness, playing favorites, mismanaged, policies only apply to some but not everybody the list goes on.

Your job would have been to lie to customers and help rip them off every day. You'd be given an unrealistic workload and expectations then threatened with termination constantly. Gillece is a mismanaged sexist unfair company ask anyone who has or does work for them. The only ones who have anything good to say are those who have connections with the family therefore they get the better end of the deal of course.

Everyone else gets the *** end of the stick. The turnover there is so high for a reason

Been over 2 years since I submitted my stuff to Jennifer Kelly in AG's Office....nothing has been done. I suspect nothing will be! The law and gov't always will support big business over the little guy.

The AG's office isn't going to do squat. It's all just talk.

If they were going to do something then they would have done it by now, it's not like theres a lack of complaints or anything. Gillece is probably paying them off to keep them from shutting them down. I wouldn't put it past them. Tom has the cash no doubt about it because he rips people off daily just to make his wallet fatter.

I think we should all get together and protest outside of their huge fancy building in Bridgeville.

It's a high traffic area so that'll get noticed by a lot of people. Maybe we can save a few who were thinking about calling these thieves.

Gillece Electric-laughable estimate

I wanted to get some ceiling lights installed in my house. Pretty big job consisting of 5 rooms. I put a request in online about what I wanted done and waited for some quotes. Gillette was the first to contact me and wouldn't give me a quote over the phone. I had to have a technician come out for 65 bucks to get me an estimate. Sucker I am I had him come out. He went through the house and we went over everything I would like done and he goes back to his truck and pulls out a price book. He comes back with an estimate of over $20k!!!! I asked if he was joking or if he must have miss added or something. He gave me some spill about they are the best around and they provide full warranty blah blah blah. I also forgot to mention that price wouldn't include patching up any drywall. I would have to pay someone else to come in and do that. Suffice to say I paid my 65 bucks and sent him on his way.

Received an estimate the following day from an honest hardworking company for $1600 (including repairing of my drywall). Al I had to do was purchase the lights.

Pretty scary to think how many people these crooks have taken. Word to the wise........stay away from gillece!

Gillece Electric is a SCAM.

Cust. Rep confirmed that their 30 year experienced tech would be able to tell me what is wrong for $65 trade fee.

All they did was confirm that power is out in my basement and it would cost $1068 to do diagnostics (doesn't include fixing the issue).

I told them I would pay $65 but would dispute to my credit card coz they didn't deliver the service they promised.
