Really rake you
Had trouble with them in the past so I don't knw why we bothered having then out again. DON'T call Gillece.
First off they are NEVER on time and the prices they quote you they rake you. The prices they quotes are like hundreds of dollar more than it should be
I was told my AC needed the coils acid washed and it would cost $800. I just had another HVAC Tech out and he said it didn't even need done and if it did the acid was to clean it cost $8.95 a bottle and you can do it yourself with a garden hose.
The entire job Gilliece quoted about 3 grand for repairs plus said to ''just get new ones and pick then out today''. The second opinion was under 150 and no talk of new units.
Don't call Gillece. They only want to line their pockets with your money. Over charge for repairs and do unneeded ones.
How are they still in business????
Shut off valves
The bathroom sink was leaking underneath and I saw the water coming from the shut off valves. I called my husband who was out of town(and really knows nothing about plumbing nor do I) and he said call GIllece.
I called and they promptly came out. The young man was very nice and after looking at the valves (and trying to sell me everything from new faucets to new vanities) gave me a quote of over $600 to replace these valves. I do a little DIY and thought this was a lot high but wasn't sure so I called my husband. He said what choice did we have and let them fix it.
So the young man replaced the valves...in ten minutes and that's when I really got suspicious. After talking to people at work the next day, aI found out this was more like $20 for valves and for 10 minutes work maybe $50. I contacted Gillece and after some discusion they agreed to refund me $125. So I ended up paying $475 for a less than $100 job.
I tell everyone I know this story and of course will never reccommend them to anyone.
I will gladly give my name if Mr. Gillece would like to know who wrote this.
Gillece is suing authors of negative reviews - READ
Please be advised that Gillece Service is in the process of suing customers over reviews on multiple websites including (but not limited to) angieslist, pissedconsumer, & complaintsboard. They are seeking $1,000,000 in damages and demanding that all negative reviews be removed.
They have hired a private internet investigator to track the supposed IP’s of individuals that they believe have left negative (in their words, defamatory, false statements). This is not the first time a company has gone about attempting to sue individuals for negative reviews online and truthfully the companies almost never win, but be advised that if you are one of the individuals who have been named in this lawsuit you do have rights. Gillece is requesting all computer information from specific times and dates which is including but not limited to, every writing, drawing, graph, chart, photograph, sound recordings, and images. Furthermore, they are also requesting the type of connection, usernames and passwords (including personal e-mail), telephone called ID information, mailing addresses for both your residence and place of business, your primary e-mail address, and any alternate e-mail addresses and passwords, all of your telephone numbers, fax numbers, a detailed log history, a detailed record of every IP address that has been allocated to the account, and MAC address.
This means that Gillece will have access to very personal and sensitive information, including your personal e-mails, bank account information (if you do online banking or have your information stored in your computer), any medical information that may have been transmitted electronically, etc. If you do not want Gillece to have the information (and why would you???), you may attempt to have this motion quashed by speaking to an attorney as soon as possible. Gillece has no right to have access to this information and by attempting to sue people over negative reviews, that paints them in a whole new light. Not only is that a horrible business practice, but if the media gets wind of what they are trying to do just imagine the negative impact this could have on their already tarnished reputation.
Gillece needs to stop bullying their customers. They are claiming that before these claims were made (most of which were posted in 2012) that they had a sterling reputation and have always upheld a 97% customer satisfaction rating. For a company that previously had an “F” rating with the BBB in 2010 when they were investigated by channel 4 WTAE, and now only has a “C” rating and well over 100 complaints with the BBB, one would hardly consider that to be a “sterling” reputation. The lawsuit can be seen here: https://dcr.alleghenycounty.us/DisplayImage.asp?gPDFOH=vol1191%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%200000****&CaseID=GD-13-00****&DocketType=COMPL&SeqNumber=1 and if that link does not work, go to https://dcr.alleghenycounty.us/SelectCaseID.asp?filename=Welcome.htm&NoLoginRequired=yes and enter docket number GD-13-00**** and at the bottom of the page click the “document” link.
Gillece is trying to silence those that they believe have damaged their reputation. The truth is, Gillece has done this to themselves with their unscrupulous and unethical business practices. What we have only done is voiced our opinions, and there is proof to back our statements up. Nothing we have said has been “defamatory” or “false”, even by calling the company a rip-off or a scam - that is still a matter of opinion and this opinion is not limited to just one person.
Under the First Amendment we have the freedom of speech. I understand there are laws and sometimes a fine line between “freedom of speech” and “defamatory statements”, but for Gillece to assume that what we are saying is false is just ridiculous. This is a result of their bad character and poor response to customer concerns and complaints. These complaint boards are specifically designed for just that - complaints.
These are here to express our opinions regarding a company, share our experiences and knowledge regarding them in hopes to warn others. By fighting back, either by motion to quash or going to court, we need to show them that we stand behind our statements and we will not be bullied by them, as they have done enough of this to too many people. Gillece needs to learn how to deal with negative responses the right way, and suing people is the exact opposite of that.
This just further goes to show how low this company really is and what they will stoop to. Do not let them win.
Drain clean scam, claim collapsed pipe.
Called Gillece for their $99 drain cleaning special. The drain for our laundry/kitchen sink/dishwasher was backing up into the basement.
Gillece came out the next day. The first guy there said he couldn't do too much since he was in an accident last week so his coworker would be by in 15 mins and they would work on it together. They both did a lot of walking around. Said they tried to snake it but the snake couldn't get past whatever was down there. Suddenly a 3rd car pulled up to help with this clog. Then they told me they put the camera down there and that our pipe had collapsed. Right away they started taking out their equipment to get started fixing it. I asked them how much and they said well if we just have to fix the collapsed pipe it will be $6200!!!!! If we find that this drain connects to the storm drain system we will have to connect it to the sanitary sewer and that will cost $13,000. Are you kidding me. $13,000.
We told them to hit the road. Called another plumber and the next day they were able to clear the "collapsed" drain to the tune of $200. Looks like we dodged a bullet. Beware this company, they are all scam artists dressed as plumbers.
John McCarey - Manager Arrested!
These are the type of people that Gillece employs. John McCarey who is dating Tom Gillece's daughter was arrested back in October for trying to break into her house...and he was arrested with weapons found on him.
Hmmm...yep. And this is who is on their management team. Oh and he's still employed there even after all of this, he's still in management. If my employee was caught trying to break into my daughters home with WEAPONS I think I would fire him.
But not Tom!
So much for not hiring criminals! Here's the link, complete with mugshot: http://peters.patch.com/articles/peters-man-jailed-for-loitering-at-night-diroderly-conduct
Gillece charged $700 for replacing an outlet
The gillece guy come over and charged almost $700 for replacing a blew out outlet. The job just took one guy 5 minute.
5 minutes job. I will not call this company again. They just want to do one time job. Obviously, they don't want any returning customer.
That's their way of running a business. I respect their way but can agree. I will not recommend them to any friend or neighbors. Next time I will rather call some small private owned company rather than this famous one.
Their over charge probably goes to the overwhelming commercials on TV everyday. Horrible service.
PVC water line split
First off Gillece was supposed to be here between 12 and 4. They called and said they would be late.
The problem I have is a split PVC pipe for my hot water line. All that needs to be done is cut out the split piece and add another piece with a couple couplings. Their technician/scam artist wanted to charge me $973 for a 15 minute job. I worked construction many years and know that should have been about $75.00 at the most!
I could replace an electrical service for that amount of money. What a rip off.
Has anyone every had a low price "check" where the Gillece employee actually said everything is ok?
I am just wondering if this every happened or anyone has had the experience. I am talking their $99 drain cleanings, the $19.99 furnace check, etc etc.
Has anyone had them come over when things were working ok and they say "wWll, everything looks fine to me. I am just going to clean up and I'll be on my way." instead of "You need a new furnace, sewer trap, air conditiioner for a low price of $30,000."I know its almost funny to think of the Gillece master scammers this way which really shows what kind of company they are.
I also know this is sampling bias because everyone here has been burned but I am very curious.
Gillece wont leave anything in writing
Gillece is one of ?the few companies I have ever had out to my home that refuses to leave an estimate now from ?the moment you read this red flags should be everywhere but here we go. I had them out just for a routine check on my furnace had not had any problems with it but ?the guy who came out claimed it needed replace and be close to 8000 or I could repair it for 5000 so I asked him for him to write it up and I would look it over well he near fainted as he tripped over his tongue as he said he couldn't and I told him if he could not then we could not use his company he explained companies that leave estimates are not reputable so I asked him to leave after reading this site I realize Gillece is a *** job and will never call them for anything.
Never Use Gillece Heating
Obviously, Gillece employees have no idea how to make minor repairs on a furnace so they try and tell you there are a multitude of problems with yours and try to sell you a new one. First of all, I called at 8:00 am and they never showed up until 7:00 pm, then when they got there they tried to tell me my 7 year old furnace needed replaced because the prior company cut corners and did everything wrong.
Two hours later, after they did absolutely nothing I told them to leave. Called Restano the next day, for a second opinion, they were there within an hour and had the problem fixed within 30 min. The only problem was a dirty sensor and I needed a new filter. So what would have cost me thousands of dollars with Gillece only cost me $115 with Restano.
Gillece is the worst company I have ever dealt with. After talking to several people at work, they all say the same.
Worst company ever.
Electrical Inspection
Duquesne Light wanted an inspection to turn service on at a home i just bought. So i called these crooks.
Came out and tried to say that all the electrical service needs replaced. New service panel is in the basement, meter box looks a couple years old, service lines are in good shape- not cracked etc.. He said it would cost 5000 dollars to fix to get power restored to the house. Just my luck i am the last person to hear about these crooks.
Everyone tells me YOU CALLED GILLECE ARE YOU NUTS?? Well i guess i am . I am also 65 dollars short and have to explain this one to my wife.
Learn from me DO NOT CALL THESE CROOKS. THEY DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR PROBLEM JUST YOUR MONEY!!!!!
*UPDATE: from Jennifer Kelly - Attorney General Agent
First, if you haven't already done so, file a complaint with the Attorney Generals office. The website is http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/Complaints.aspx . File out the form, follow the instructions, write a detailed letter with any copies of contracts, etc.
When we first complained, I got a call from Jennifer Kelly who was working the case. She a consumer affairs agent (Her direct line is 412-565-****). This was about a year ago and haven't heard anything since. BUT - I just got a call this morning almost a year later from her. She said that they have a list of cases that Gillece wanted to make offers on to settle them. The idea being that if they pay up on some of the complaints, and the Attorney General goes after them in a civil case, you would not be elgible to recieve additional funds they successfully sue them. We accepted the offer ( its wasn't much) and they are sending a release. If they call you, its up to you.
What does this mean for all of us that got screwed???
1) Gillece is taking notice of the massive amount of complaints at the Attorney Generals. Thats why its important to send your formal complaints to them after you've done posting on here.
2) Gillece is actually paying out, which means they are betting there might actually be a chance of acivil case against them.
3) There is a new attorney general taking office soon. They are likely to review everything and this might hit the radar having a fresh look at current cases.
4)The best part....Hope is not lost people! Jennifer Kelly has personally confirmed that the case is still open and they are still collecting complaints so keep them coming.
Jennifer Kelly said they need permission to go after the Gillece scammers in Harrisburg first. I kindly said that if they put a civil case against these guys it would make a ton of people happy and wished her good luck.
Gillece scammed you? Me too. File a complaint with the attorney general
It doesn't matter how small or insignificant your story may seem. If you feel Gillece scammed you, or a friend, or a neighbor, or your son, or your mother, or your great grandmother (their fa filvorite target...), you NEED to complain about it! The local Atty General's office in Pittsburgh is downtown, you can file a complaint online or write and mail it to them. Jennifer Kelley is their go-to lady, so write to her attention.
They may do nothing about it, but the more complaints they have the better. Remember it took them years to get Sandusky so it will probably take longer since I'm sure Gillece has paid people everywhere trying to avoid being prosecuted (just like they hire trolls to write 'help' articles and 'good' things on this website... called PISSED CONSUMER... not consumer looking for tips, or consumer looking for good things about a company... its called PISSED CONSUMER... it's a shame when your company is so bad you have to hire people to thin out the thousands of unhappy customer complaints online)
The only way to bring down Goliath is if all the David's of the world make their voices heard. This company is disgraceful, and nothing they do is ethical. GILLECE. THE DIRTIEST COMPANY IN PITTSBURGH.
Gillece Uses Scare Tactics on the Elderly!!!!
My elderly widowed mother called Gillece Services on 10/24/12 for a seasonal check on her 4 year-old forced air furnace that they advertise for $19.95. Her furnace is fairly new and never once had there been a problem with it as she always has it checked each and every year and has it maintained.
Normally she would have called the man who installed it, but due to family circumstances he was not available so she called Gillece after seeing their advertisement on TV. My mother scheduled the check for 10/29/12 as it was not an emergency and everything was working just fine, she was placed in a time bracket between 10-2 that day. Around 1:45 they called her and said they were running behind but promised they would be there no later than 4PM…this should have been the first warning sign. 3:30 rolls around and they ask if she would be available later that evening, maybe around 7 or 8.
Mind you my mother is 92 years old and goes to bed fairly early, normally around 8 pm, but because she had already waited all day she agreed. Close to 8 they call yet again and tell her they would not be able to make it out today and asked if she was available tomorrow. This upset my mother very much because she had scheduled this appointment days in advance, and had been rescheduled that day multiple times. She informed them that she would be available after noon that day due to a doctor’s appointment.
I dropped her off at her house after her appointment and decided to spend some time with her at her home and make her lunch and wait for Gillece to arrive, but they never did. I had to call and I was told, once again, that they were running behind and asked if we would be available later that day. I informed them that this same scenario happened all day yesterday, and my mother was rescheduled for today and I was not about to have that happen again. To try and shorten my story a little, they did reschedule again – twice…and did not arrive for the scheduled seasonal check until 11/2/2012 – almost a week after the day it was originally scheduled for.
The technician arrived and according to my mother, spent no more than 5 minutes messing with it before he announced that something was cracked and emitting dangerous carbon monoxide and the whole furnace would need to be replaced because she was in great danger and then he red tagged the furnace and shut it down. Keep in mind this furnace is barely 4 years old, working fine the entire time, never once set off the carbon monoxide alarms in the home and he had not just shut off the only source of heat my elderly mother has. The technician told my mother that they could replace her furnace TODAY if she agreed, to the tune of $6500.00...she is on a fixed income, they did not care. At this point my mother called me and told me everything this man had said, and I told her not to sign a thing and to put me on the phone with him.
The man told me that my mother was in a “very serious” situation and it could be potentially life-threatening and a repair was absolutely not an option. After some arguing I told him to turn the furnace back on, leave, and I would call somebody else for her. He told me since it was red tagged he could not turn it back on, but he did end up leaving. My mother was basically in tears and panicking, so I left work to go over to her house to comfort her and call another contractor.
I called a local company who arrived within 2 hours and they informed us that nothing was wrong with the furnace at all, in fact it was in perfect condition! I told them everything Gillece had said and they informed us that Gillece does this to many, many people – they are a scam company that particularly preys on the elderly using scare tactics in hopes to get a sale out of them. I was absolutely furious at Gillece so I called them up and demanded to speak to a manager about my mother’s situation. I was put on hold for nearly 10 minutes before I was told “no one is available right now but give us your information and someone will call you back” so I did just that, waited nearly all day and no call back.
I called again the next day and it was the same story pretty much. The next 3 days, the same thing! When I asked to speak to Tom Gillece the woman on the phone gave me a muffled chuckle and said “Mr. Gillece is unavailable to speak to you, sorry”, so I guess the big man himself doesn’t want to deal with his own business and that alone should speak volumes about this company.
I have still yet to hear back from Gillece, they just don’t care and they know very well what they are doing to people. I am in the process of filing a complaint with the BBB, AG’s office and will go even farther if I feel the need to. Gillece Services should be ashamed of themselves. Do yourself a favor, do not call Gillece no matter what kind of specials they offer or what situation you’re in because you’ll surely regret it.
Their customer service is horrible, they do nothing to resolve the complaints of unhappy customers, and they scam people out of money and use hard scare tactics. This company has a C rating with the BBB which used to be an F, if only I had found that out sooner along with the other complaints online.
I have told everyone I know about my story with Gillece and informed them of the complaints on this website and how Channel 4 News even did and investigation on their business practices, wow! Gillece Services should be put out of business before they do more harm.
Gillece Services - won't talk to you until you complain on the internet multiple times
Posted a review about how Gillece took my grandmother to the cleaners by preying on how easy it is to scare an elderly woman.
They said to "call them" to discuss.
Well GILLECE, I'll have you know myself and my brother called MULTIPLE TIMES last year try and have someone explain what was 'faulty' about her wiring, and how it was possible there was a crew ready to start the work the next day "for her convenience" - aka so she couldn't think about it for long and cancel (or call us to tell us about it).
We talked to Celeste, who passed our messages on to a "manager" - the manager who called a few days later and left me a message at 8 PM, and who DID NOT HAVE VOICEMAIL set-up so I could never get in touch with him. He said his name was Tom, no last name, nothing more than a number to call back at which rang and rang and rang. No answer, no voicemail system. What self-respecting business person ("manager") at a large company doesn't have voicemail setup? One who leads a BUNCH OF CROOKS WHO HAVE THOUSANDS OF UNHAPPY CUSTOMERS, THAT'S WHO!!!!
Celeste better get paid millions of dollars for having to deflect dozens of complaint calls so well. Somehow she has a new excuse or reason why we can't reach someone. Letters we wrote went unanswered as well.
YOU ARE A BUNCH OF SCAM ARTISTS AND I WON'T REST UNTIL YOU ARE OUT OF BUSINESS FOR TAKING ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE THIS WAY!!!!!
Thank You for Your Reply! We are processing your message.

next time do it your self off you tube and flood your house, then you be beggin someone to come and wish you paid that $
$50 does not pay for the trucks gas to come out let alone to get the parts, stock them and pay all the tech's wages, taxs, fica, uc, and over head and theres no profit in a $100.00 . So get the $100 out of your head.
You got some money back that you dont deserve so you should shut your mouth.
If I cut your grass for $200 and you bitched I'd tell you go to *** lady. Get some our landscaper to cut your grass and deal with your ten ft high grass.
Idk about this complaint to be honest. I mean if you lack the ability to fix something, and have to rely on someone else to do it, it's kind of on you to pay what that company wants.
Besides, you should have asked for a quote first. A few minutes of Google researched probably would have showed you how to do it yourself...
UPDATE 5/13/13
i called gillece back because of their posting to my complaint. i talked to a manager named tom.
he reviewed my complaint and called back within 15 minutes, offering a $200 additional refund.
this puts my cost at $250, much more reasonable than the original $600. thanks tom!
lol

@gillece this lawsuit your pursing seems to be gaining a lot of negative attention directed at you. maybe your company should have put more thought into this and tried to see it from a PR view instead of just a legal one now ur getting a bunch of negative attention u probably wouldn't have otherwise gotten.
people don't like it when they think their first admendment rights are threatened. i see this turning rather messy for you, u should re-think this while u still can.
what if it gains national attention?
someone should send them a picture of barbara streisand's house
I saw their story on channel 4 tonight and I can't even believe it. Bullying customers and ex-employees with legal action -- it's just sickening that a company would go to such lengths.
I haven't used them and trust me I never will, but I have 2 close friends who did and had very bad experiences. This ridiculous lawsuit just further shows what kind of people are running this company. Cut off your nose to spite your face. You aren't going to get business when people see how badly you treat your critics.
People shouldn't have to be afraid to say what they feel about a company. Just sick.
Gillece and Mr. Rooter act the same way...Unfortunately...
